Valletta, Malta

We had a spectacular  5km walk around the coastline in Valletta. The sea was was high and a little rough. A very interesting and rocky area.

 Cats on patrol.

These two guys were really feeling invincible. Bit dodgy as there was a lot of power in theses waves.

 Beachside 'cardboard' cut out!!!!

This pool where the boys were practicing volley ball was swamped more than a few times with huge waves. It didn't phase them, they just carried on even though they were thrown around in the water.

View from our table in a restaurant where the seawater was racing in under the building. Bit freaky but kept us amused.

We really loved Malta and hopefully look forward to going further afield around the island in the future sometime.

Now its on the England.

Croatia, Sicily. Malta.

Finally I am going to start and catch up with getting some photos of our latest travels downloaded onto the Blog. Back in early June we visited Croatia which was very exciting as we had previously visited in 1982 when the Country was known as Yugoslavia.

The beautiful and famous Stari Most (old bridge) in Mostar was destroyed in the Serbian-Bosnian War in 1993  but rebuilt. In the photo below someone had just jumped from the bridge. Youths collect money by passing around a hat, and then when they have a certain amount they pose and jump. Might seem a good way to make money but comes with a high degree of risk and several people have died in this way.

There are still many ruins that have just been left as a reminder of the war that took a very heavy toll in Mostar. It was a very beautiful place to visit but many locals have been left permanently scarred and traumatised by the effects of this devastating time of war.

The beautiful city of Dubrovnik which was also badly shelled in the War.
We walked a good portion of the old city wall.
 Dubrovnik by night.

 Siracusa in Sicily.

Fish Market in Isola di Ortigia, Sicily. Cutting up the Tuna.

One June 23rd we visited Valletta in Malta. It was our first visit here and we were both impressed. So many great places to walk around. The old walled city was most impressive.

Above is the outdoor lift that takes you up to the Upper Barrakka Gardens where you get a beautiful panoramic view of the harbour.

This is the view from the hotel we stayed in for two nights before our flight to London.

Horse and carriage ride through the Medina about 20 kms outside Valletta. Very tiny alleys but the horse had done it all before and didn't seem to mind.

The view from the tower looking back towards Valletta.
