The day in the Katmai National Park Reserve in Geographic Harbour was absolutely perfect. One of the most beautiful spots for spectacular scenery it was just a shame the weather didn't behave. It poured with rain almost the whole 90 minutes we were out on the water. I only took my mobile to take photos seeing it could lay flat in my jacket pocket and keep reasonably dry. We had almost decided to not go because of the heavy rain but thank goodness we did. We saw bears in five different areas and managed to get quite close on three occasions.
A short break in the weather before we started scouting the shores for wildlife.
The first was a lone brown bear digging for shellfish.
The scenery was stunning in spite of the rain.
Across the bay was a mother and two cubs.
Followed by another mother with cubs and then a lone bear (below) who walked along the rocky shore for about 500metres to a sandy area.
One zodiac you just don't want to be on and thats with the serious and competitive photographers.
