Seattle, Port Townsend USA

I omitted this photo of a couple in our Victoria shots. They really stood out in Victoria on the 150th Anniversary day. This lady had not only made her red and white dress but also a 2 piece suit for her husband in the same fabric. Now thats real patriotic commitment. I loved it and such a nice couple.

In Seattle we visited the Chihuly Galleries and Garden of glass. A massive display and just stunning. The gardens were amazing with coloured glass sculptures popping up everywhere.

The original Starbucks coffee house where it all started and is still trading from the same building today.

Mount Rainier viewed from the ship was really beautiful on this beautiful clear day.

Port Townsend was our next Port of call which is a designated National historic town. There were at least a couple of dozen historic buildings in the town. We spent a morning just wandering around the houses up the hill which were built in the 1850's and have been well restored and maintained. This house above had bird houses all around their corner section fence and the old pram in the garden.

We called in at a pharmacy in the town and discovered an old Diner in the back. It looked straight out of Happy Days and the old timers in there were all locals and talking across their tables. We sat and had a coffee and were amused to see that as people came in the waitress knew everyone and got their food and drink without them ordering. She just knew what they wanted. Obviously a standing order. It was amazing. No such thing as a latte or cappuccino. A filtered coffee was the only option and very nice it was too. A little later this deer popped out of nowhere and just cruised on down the street. Apparently they are liked by the locals because they destroy the gardens on their properties.

This was the house of a prominent citizen of Port Townsend back in the late 1800's. Apparently the small tower on the top of the left hand side of the roof has a type of glass that causes prisms into the room below, when the sun hits the glass in the right place.

Many of the old homes had this kind of turret on top.

In the afternoon we stopped at the Old Teahouse for a cup of tea. The egg timers timed how long it took for the tea to steep. Richard said it was the best cup of tea he had ever had and mine was delicious too.
Then it was on to Vancouver where there was so much to see. The Lion gate suspension bridge was pretty impressive even if it did cause the traffic to bottleneck at peak times.
