Marrakech continued

The lounge area at the Selman Hotel where we were staying. The colour scheme was beautiful. The furniture was plush and the antiques and decor was amazing.
There was a long walk from this room all the way down past the outdoor long pool and lounging area ( in previous post ) to the arena we had watched the horse show from.

We were lucky enough to be taken on a tour through the stables. It was just unbelievable the luxury that these very special and expensive horses were housed in.
They were all Arabian thoroughbreds and had won numerous prizes in international competitions throughout the world.
The breed was originally from Saudi Arabia and introduced to Morocco in the 7th century.

They all had personalities plus. When you talked to them they got very excited and made noises back to you.
Above is the drying room where the horses are taken after a shower to dry off. The heaters from the ceiling helped to warm and relax their muscles after activities.

The long corridor of stables. Unbelievable, Im sure they must be some of the most pampered horses in the world.
And finally we have an albino horse. Very unusual and rare. It also had good eyesight which is unusual for an albino.

The entrance to the corridor where we had no trouble finding our room.

The road entrance to the Hotel Selman.

Just as the sun was setting we arrived at Dar Yacout Restaurant for dinner where we checked out the view from the roof top before our meal.

Back at the hotel I discovered every velvet drape in the corridor was arranged in a perfectly pleated design on the floor. Considering the corridor would have been over two hundred metres long this must have been a very time consuming exercise.

The next morning as we got on the bus our guide gave all the women in our group a white rose.
Shame it didn't look like this at the end of the day.

Our first stop for the morning was a visit to the Yves Saint-Laurent Gardens which is where he was buried. The gardens were really beautiful. I could have stayed longer but as is the way with tours there is always a lot to fit in.

 The Tomb of Yves Saint-Lauren.

The cacti in the gardens were spectacular and very unusual .

It was amazing to see how high the bamboo grew.

This seemed to be the traditional dress for the men. All our local guides were dressed in this way. Either in cream, grey, black or camel colour.

  1. Marrakech looks so interesting , love the rich lush colours especially the deep purples. Hotel Selman was a special place , did you get a big well draped bed? The photo of the albino horse is brillant , you are seeing some very cool cacti ( got to say I think probably more varied than the Mexican ones we saw). Thank you for sharing its like traveling with you - just wonderful. X
