The River Till in Kelso which was extremely low at the time we were there. Fishermen come to fish the river at this time of year (at great cost for a licence) but because the river was so low no one was fishing but because of the higher warmer temperature there was a green weed growing prolifically on the rivers edge. Each day we were there it seemed to have advanced from the day before.
Floors Castle and Gardens was just a short walk down the road from where we were staying in Kelso. From where we walked in, it would have been another 1.5 km to the castle through a beautiful woodland area. It is the home of the Duke of Roxburghe and his family.
The flowers in the gardens were amazing. Beautiful large healthy blooms. It really was quite special and the best garden we visited.
The Head Gardeners House. There are five gardeners employed here.
The Alnick Gardens were quite different different with a variety of things to see from a comical Giant character lounging in a lake inside the entrance who blew off bubbles from the appropriate area, to a treetop walkway, Poisonous Garden, Numerous unusual water features and other quirky displays.
The itinerary of things to do etc were displayed in these huge books.
The entrance to the tree top walk which included two swing bridges.
The tiered waterfall.
Take your dirty giant boots off.
Lots of ride on diggers for the kids were very popular.
The staggered waterfall was impressive when all the water features were going together.
The side channels of the waterfall where the water went down the outlet hole in an anti clockwise direction. The opposite to NZ.
Tunnelled canopy walkways.
Looking down from the top of the Waterfall.
A life sized silhouette of a first world war soldier. Installed to commemorate the centenary of the end of the war in 1918.
The gardens at the top of the park were full of colour.
Bamboo canopy.
The poison garden where you could only go in on an escorted tour.
Im probably the only person to have photographed the washroom in a public convenience but these were so impressive and a pleasure to use. Every attention to detail had been made in the design right down to the flowers.
Seating in the treehouse.
