A photo of a photo of an oil rig in the North Sea continental shelf. More than 5000 wells have been drilled on this Shelf. Sea conditions can be extremely rough as this photo shows.
A small scaled model showing what a huge Rig consists of.
This particular Rig platform is taller than the Eiffel Tower. That is just amazing. It is the tallest movable man made construction in the world.
The entrance to the Norwegian Petroleum Museum.
The buildings in Stavanger town were very quaint.
And out of nowhere we come across an imprint of Desmond Tutu's footprints on the pavement in recognition of him being awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1984. Wow how things have changed.
One thing for sure he had very tiny feet.
Two days later we visited Bergen. One of the prettiest towns. Above, under the red canopies is all the
outdoor fish markets where you could order your fish and eat it at the tables provided. No frills but terrifically fresh and tasty. We each chose a salmon tale and scallops. Delicious.
Waterfront Shops and Restaurants.
Our salmon tails and scallops cooking.
One of the chefs who had just come back from a visit to New Zealand.
The view from the top was spectacular.
We were very lucky with the weather in Norway. In Bergen where it usually rains an odd 240 days a year it had been fine and warm for three weeks and on this particular evening when we sat outdoors for dinner the temperature was still well in the early 30s and they had had an all time record.
The sunsets were beautiful and lasted for ages setting around 10.30pm.
These roof shapes were unusual and rather eye catching.
