We took a one hour rail trip from Andalsnes on the Rauma railway to Bjorli which is 574 metres above sea level. Its at the end of the Gudbrandsdalen valley where part of one of the Harry Potter movies was filmed. The only location used outside the UK. It was an electric train and very quiet which was perfect for travelling through such spectacular and serene countryside.
We got off the bus in Bjorli where of course there is the usual tourist trap shop with souvineers like the reindeer and fox skins hanging impressively on show.
There is always a troll or two to be found seeing this area is very much known for its Troll stories.
The impressive Kylling bridge which is built entirely out of natural stone and fitted together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. We went over this on the train.
We returned via bus to Andalsnes where the scenery was just as stunning by road as it had been on the train.
Trollvegen, Europes biggest vertical rock face where dozens of climbers and base jumpers have died over the years. Base jumping is now prohibited. Fishing, hiking and canoeing are all very popular in this area.
According to Norwegian folklore the sharp and slender rock formations on Trollvegan were made from Trolls who turned to stone because they did not return home before sunrise.!!!
So now its goodbye to Andalsnes and its sparking waters on a beautiful sunny day.
