Lokken Copper Mine, Trondheim Norway

Beautiful reflection of the buildings in Trondheim Harbour.  The old town in the city is one of the most picturesque cites in Norway.

One of the two days that we spent in Trondheim we took a trip to the old Lokken copper mine which was active for  333 years. It was Norways largest copper mine. We travelled there by bus passing  through beautiful farmed countryside, not unlike New Zealand in many places. The above photo was from the bus in the Orkdalen Valley, where there were miles and miles of this wild flower growing prolifically in the fields.

 Wild mushrooms near the mine.

The entrance to the mine where we went in 800 metres. The mine closed 30 years ago.

An underground miniature recreation of the working of the mine inside.

The walk into the mine was along a well maintained walkway and stairs although very slippery in places.

 The colours inside were amazing.

 Toilets on site!!!!

Once inside the main cave, our young guide gave us a recital of three songs. The acoustics were unbelievable and she had the sweetest clearest voice. It was eye watering. We weren't expecting that.

After we left the copper mine we boarded the Thamshavn narrow gauge railway. The journey down the valley in the vintage carriages was very relaxing with stunning scenery all the way.

The restored electric locomotive and carriages were originally used to serve the copper mine.

Then it was back on the bus to travel the rest of the way back to Tronheim.

Its amazing the number of tunnels in Norway.

Wheat is a very common crop in Norway.
